QUEENSLAND’S resource and construction supply chain will come together in Gladstone next week to understand potential project opportunities across the state with Powerlink Queensland and the Industry Capability Network.
Central Queensland plays a vital role in Queensland’s electricity transmission network, both as a major generator and consumer of electricity. As the region continues to evolve, Powerlink Queensland is actively planning and securing approvals for several major transmission projects.
Held on Wednesday, April 9 at the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre, Connecting Industry Director Kieran Moran said as Queensland invests in clean energy, Powerlink Queensland is delivering critical transmission infrastructure to support the state’s growing renewable energy industry.
“With a strong focus on Renewable Energy Zones (REZ), Powerlink is strategically investing in projects across Queensland to connect large-scale solar, wind, and battery storage projects to the grid, ensuring a reliable and sustainable energy supply for generations to come,” Mr Moran said.
“These projects aim to connect planned renewable energy developments to the transmission network, alongside a broader program to reinforce transmission infrastructure, including new lines, substations, and related equipment.”
Powerlink Project Development Director Kurt Baker will give an update on Powerlink’s major projects in the region at the luncheon, including insights into the challenges and opportunities in early project development, such as corridor selection, land access, approvals, and cultural heritage partnerships.
Mr Moran said Kurt Baker will be joined by Industry Capability Network (ICN) Queensland Executive Director Abhiney Arora whose presentation will focus on promoting local industry participation and driving manufacturing innovation across the state.
“Powerlink is identifying the capability and capacity of the supply chain interested in providing goods or services to the Gladstone Project,” he said.
“With the Expression of Interest (EOI) process for stage 1 of the Gladstone Project being facilitated by the ICN Gateway, Abhiney Arora will inform attendees on how your business can apply for project work and be part of Queensland’s expanding energy network.
Powerlink Queensland team members will also be available to provide further information and answer questions, including about the current supplier expressions of interest process.
