Genex Power has appointed PCL Construction as its preferred engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for Stage 1 of the Bulli Creek solar project.
Genex and J-POWER are working towards a final investment decision this year for the Stage 1 development, with capacity of up to 775MW.
“PCL is a globally reputable EPC contractor in the large-scale solar industry, having installed a total of 3,044MW globally and 474MW in Australia, with another 631MW capacity currently in construction in Australia,” Genex chief executive officer Craig Francis said.
“During the tender process, we were particularly impressed with PCL’s on-the-ground capability in Australia and their impressive safety record.
“At up to 775MW, the Bulli Creek solar farm is expected to be the largest solar farm connected to the National Electricity Market, which makes the selection of our construction contractor critical and an important development milestone.
“We are looking forward to working closely with PCL as we continue to advance the Bulli Creek solar farm toward a final investment decision later this year.”

Genex has also entered into an early contractor involvement agreement with PCL for the development, about 100km south-west of Toowoomba.
This agreement outlines the basis upon which the parties will work together to design and scope the full specification for the project, which will lead to terms being agreed later in CY2024 for a full-form EPC contract to engineer and construct the project.
Initiated by Solar Choice in 2013, Bulli Creek is a multi-stage development project of up to 2GW of battery energy storage system (BESS) and solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity.
It covers an area of more than 5000ha and is located about 4km from Powerlink’s Bulli Creek 330kV substation, which is the connection point for the Queensland-NSW Interconnector.
Genex has indicated that the 775MW Stage 1 solar development will be followed by a BESS stage of up to 400MW, with the potential for further solar and/or BESS stages to follow up to the full 2GW capacity at the project site.
