Queensland’s Toondoon Kaolin Project is one step closer to becoming a reality, with Zeotech proving its flagship product at commercial scale in a landmark demonstration that could reshape the future of concrete.
Drawing directly from Toondoon’s ultra-pure kaolin resource near Mundubbera, Zeotech poured more than 100 cubic metres of concrete – 17 truckloads – using eight tonnes of AusPozz™. The large-scale trial proved Toondoon’s feedstock can deliver a high-performance, low-carbon additive that integrates seamlessly with mainstream concrete operations while significantly reducing embodied carbon.
The pour attracted more than 35 representatives from leading construction and materials companies including Holcim Australia, Cement Australia, Queensland Transport and Main Roads, Boral, Amazon, GHD, Laing O’Rourke and Icubed Consulting. Attendees praised the mix for its ease of placement, strength and compliance with Queensland TMR’s MRTS40 pavement specification. Placed in a high-traffic weighbridge area, the slab has already shown strong early results with no cracking after 72 hours.
Covering more than 28,000 hectares, the Toondoon Project is slated to begin production in 2026, supplying the critical feedstock for AusPozz™. The success of this demonstration pour has not only validated the product at scale but also provided the momentum needed to advance Toondoon toward development, underpinning Zeotech’s vision to be a global leader in sustainable construction materials.
Zeotech CEO James Marsh said the pour was a pivotal milestone that showcased how Toondoon will transition from project to production:
“This commercial-scale pour confirms AusPozz™ is not only compatible with existing concrete operations but also capable of meaningfully reducing embodied carbon while lowering total binder costs. It’s a clear signal that Toondoon is ready to move from concept to reality as a cornerstone project for sustainable construction.”
