Maxwell Underground Project
The project involves the recommissioning of the substantial coal handling and train loading infrastructure at the Maxwell Infrastructure site (ex. Drayton) as well as significant construction activities related to establishing access to the underground mine entry area as well as surface to seam construction activities.
The project will also require the procurement of all underground mining equipment required for a safe and highly productive Longwall mine.
Malabar Resources are an independent majority Australian owned mining company based in the Hunter Valley.



Uungula Wind Farm
The project includes a proposed 97 wind turbines and optionality for an energy storage facility and will have a generation capacity in the order of 400MW electricity – enough to power over 170,000 homes and avoid the emission of over a milllion tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
Following anticipated approval in early 2021 the project is anticipated to commence the approximately 2.5 year construction period in late 2021.



Hawsons Iron Project
The US$1.4billion magnetite project is forecast to be a first quartile of the global cost curve, has a clear technical and permitting pathway and an ideal location for operations with existing power, rail and port infrastructure available for a 10Mtpa start-up operation.
It’s unique soft ore that allows a different and low power approach to mining and processing challenges and simple liberation of a product of rare quality.



Avonlie Solar Farm
The project will generate around 200 direct jobs during construction and around 130 indirect supply chain jobs. In addition it will employ approximately 3-4 full time staff during the operation and maintenance phase (expected to be 25-30 years).
The proposal is for a solar and energy storage facility which will consist of the following components:
- Around 667,000 solar panels mounted on either a fixed or single axis tracking system.
- Access tracks
- A total solar capacity up to around 200MW
- Operations and maintenance building with associated car parking
- An electrical substation
- Overhead and underground electrical cable reticulation
- Energy storage
- Security fencing and CCTV
The employment benefits extend through the local supply chains to fuel supply, vehicle servicing, uniform suppliers, hotels/motels, B&B’s, cafés, pubs, catering and cleaning companies, tradespersons, tool and equipment suppliers and many other businesses.



Australian Rail Track Corporation: Inland Rail
Spanning more than 1,700km across 36 local government areas, Inland Rail will transform the way freight moves around the country, connect regional Australia to markets more efficiently, drive substantial cost savings for producers and consumers, and deliver significant economic benefits.
With the first of its 13 individual projects, from Parkes to Narromine, completed and the second, from Narrabri to North Star, to commence late 2020, Inland Rail is the largest freight rail infrastructure project in Australia and one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the world.
In New South Wales, Inland Rail is set to provide $2.6 billion in economic benefit and an estimated 5,000 jobs at the peak of construction. In 2016, Infrastructure Australia identified Inland Rail as a ‘Priority Project’, confirming its positive economic and financial benefits to regional communities, industry and the national economy.



Snowy 2.0
The Snowy 2.0 renewable energy project will provide an additional 2,000 megawatts of dispatchable, on-demand generating capacity and approximately 350,000 megawatt hours of large-scale storage to the National Electricity Market, enough to power three million homes over the course of a week.



Dumaresq Solar Farm
The Project Site is located approximately 75 kms north of Inverell in Regional New South Wales. The site offers a number of elements including being intersected by Transgrid's 330kv Dumaresq to Bulli Creek Interconnector.
It is estimated that the Investment Capital associated with this project will be not less than A$225,000,000 and will offer approximately 150+ jobs during construction phase and around 5 full time jobs for the long life operation of the asset.



Narrabri Gas Project
With its origins in the Cooper Basin, Santos has one of the largest exploration and production acreages in Australia and extensive infrastructure and is committed to supplying the domestic markets, unlocking resources and driving value and performance.
On 30 September 2020, Santos received EIS approval from the NSW Independent Planning Commission, followed by EPBC Approval on the 24th November 2020 from the Federal Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment, to develop the Narrabri Gas Project.
Santos’ Narrabri Gas Project has the potential to supply up to 200 terajoules of natural gas per day, which is sufficient gas to meet up to half of NSW’s natural gas demand. This is the natural gas that heats and powers more than one million family homes in NSW and fuels some 33,000 businesses. About 500 heavy industrial users consume approximately 75 per cent of the gas supplied to NSW and it is estimated that about 300,000 jobs rely on a safe, affordable and secure supply of natural gas.
All of the gas produced from the Narrabri Gas Project will be made available for the NSW market to optimise the opportunities for the use of gas as a source of energy including via a high-pressure gas transmission pipeline.
In addition to the provision of energy to the state, the project would create approximately 1300 jobs during the initial construction phase and around 200 direct and indirect jobs throughout the operational phase, many of which will be locally based. Over its life, the project will generate around $1.2 billion in State royalties to help provide important services like education, health and transport infrastructure.
The local community will also benefit from a Gas Community Benefit Fund totalling up to $120 million which will support local community programs and initiatives.

David Watt
Inland Rail Head of Commercial
David has more than 25 years’ experience across all aspects of commercial management, risk management, contract management, project management and general management – both on project sites and in the corporate environment – and brings his most recent experience from a range of Director-level roles at SNC-Lavalin.
David’s sector experience includes rail, construction (high rise, industrial, commercial, housing), aeronautical, mining, major infrastructure, ports and marine, and heavy power construction in Australia, Canada, the UK and Southern Africa.



James Johnson
Malabar Coal General Manager Development & Operations
A Fitter by trade, James also holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical – Honours Class 1) from the University of Newcastle, Australia, and industry-recognised qualifications including Mining Engineering Manager and Mechanical Engineering Manager Certificates of Competency for NSW Coal.



Matthew Flower
CWP Renewables Project Manager Uungula Wind Farm
Matthew has experience with developing multiple wind and solar farm sites throughout NSW including the Sapphire Solar and Storage project in the NSW New England Region. Matthew’s focus is environmental approvals and community liaison and is passionate about being part of the transition in large-scale energy generation.
Since graduating from Macquarie University in Sydney in the early 2000s Matthew has worked all over Australia on a wide variety of development projects.



Quentin Hill
Carpentaria Resources Limited Managing Director
As Managing Director he has overseen successful resource upgrades, product marketing efforts and a prefeasibility study that have created a stable technical platform for project development and positioned Hawsons to be widely accepted by off-takers as the leading high quality iron project in the world. With the latest transaction to consolidate project ownership 94% within Carpentaria Quentin has also overseen the stable commercial platform for the development of the project.
Prior to his 10 years with Carpentaria, Quentin held technical positions with major miners, including seven years with Delta Gold and with Vale’s coal division.He also held a senior role in the Queensland Government, where he implemented several exploration funding initiatives. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Geoscientists and holds a graduate certificate in business administration.



Mike Whitbread
RES Australia: Head of Solar and Storage Development
The Solar and Storage team develop standalone utility scale solar, BESS (battery energy storage system) and hybrid projects throughout Australia.
Prior to joining the RES team in Australia, Mike worked for RES in Japan and the UK, developing both wind and solar projects across Europe, Turkey and South Africa, having joined RES in 2002.



Dean Lynch
Snowy 2.0 Relations Manager
Presenting with a member of the Future Generation JV procurement team, Dean has been a leader in the community as Mayor of the Cooma Monaro Shire (8 years) and administrator of the Snowy Monaro Regional Council (2 years). A graduate of Charles Sturt University, he also has extensive experience in business, as the former owner and operator of a chain of electrical retail stores, and in civil earthworks and contracting. Dean remains a retail business owner in Cooma and owns and manages Kunuma Stud, the highest Angus stud in Australia at 1400m.
Dean Lynch will be accompanied by Clough Operations Manager and Snowy 2.0 Project Management team member Geoff Scott.
Having over 25 years in the construction industry, Geoff has worked across a number of market sectors including Oil & Gas, Mining, Mineral Processing, Renewable Energies and Water and is experienced in the full project lifecycle from concept development, project start ups, full construction, commissioning and handover on EPC, Alliance, EPCM style projects.
Geoff has covered roles in project engineering, engineering management, construction management and full project management in various disciplines of earthworks, civil, mechanical installations, process equipment, materials handling, marine works, pipelines, pumping stations and power plants. Recently leading the East Coast of Australia and PNG over the last few years, Geoff jumped at the opportunity to work full time on the exciting Snowy2.0 where he is on the Executive Committee for the project.

Todd Dunn
Project Manager Narrabri, Santos Ltd
With over 15 years' experience in engineering, operational and leadership roles within the oil and gas sector, Todd has gained extensive experience both within Australia and Internationally. Within Santos he has held various positions including NSW Operations Manager and Operations Engineering Team Leader and holds degrees in Bachelor of Chemical Engineering (Hons) and Bachelor of Business Management and is a Chartered Engineer.
In addition to his role in delivering the Narrabri Gas Project, Todd is also a Non-Executive Director of Summit Community Services which provide housing and disability services within the Narrabri region.

BREAKOUT Sessions
The Connecting Industry Conference NSW features four breakout sessions with speakers delivering presentations and discussions focused on the procurement space. Topics of discussion are based on the supply chain, business planning, operations management, business development and local content.



Jason Manttan
Inland Rail Supply Chain and Social Performance Manager
He led the development and implementation of local content programs for numerous projects, assisting organisations such as Arrow Energy, Destination Brisbane Consortium, Origin Energy, Rio Tinto and Shell QGC, as well as Arrow Energy’s procurement agents Clough Amec Joint Venture and DHL. Jason was also an instrumental team member during the implementation of the Origin Energy Regional Buy Program, utilising the Online Procurement System.
He developed and managed implementation of Arrow’s Local Content Policy and Strategy for the multi-billion-dollar upstream CSG to LNG project and has also run a bespoke local content consultancy. This involved supporting project owners and contractors develop and implement local content policies and strategies, including that for the RangeLink Consortium on the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing Project.
During 12 years in industry and economic development roles within the Queensland Government, Jason developed an in-depth understanding and appreciation for the challenges affecting Queensland industry and the mechanisms to support them.
In this breakout session, Jason will discuss how to get involved in this once-in-a-generation project. Jason will outline current and upcoming procurement opportunities, time frames, the procurement process and how you can stay informed about the latest developments on Inland Rail tenders.



Ian Hudson
Industry Capability Network Executive Director
At ICN, Ian has held roles as Regional Manager in Central West NSW, where he engaged SMEs in major mining, construction and transport projects. Prior to that he held an Agrifood industry role and Aboriginal business development mentoring role.
With almost 10 years at ICN, Ian now leads a passionate team of people located in regional and metropolitan NSW who are intent on helping buyers efficiently develop a competitive and capable supply chain by finding and introducing competent suppliers.
In this breakout session, Ian will provide a brief description of the NSW projects not already covered in the agenda that are on ICN Gateway. He will also provide links to various places where more information about forthcoming projects can be found and how to engage. Ben Hughes
Principal at Hughes et al
Ben began his career in local content in 2008 and has represented a range of proponents and contractors throughout Australia. He has only recently published the ‘Project Directors Local Content Guidance Note’ which provides thought leadership on how projects can maximise local content.
Hughes et al work for tender and delivery teams and project owners to design and implement local jobs, supply, and regional capability projects.
In his recent book, Project Directors Local Content Guidance Note, Ben compares building infrastructure projects in regions to an A380 coming in to land on a bush airstrip and he will be discussing lessons learned on how regional economic stakeholders, suppliers and employment service providers can increase the economic opportunity in their community by making it easy for infrastructure projects to deliver projects.
